Cross Stitch Mini Motifs: Flowers - More Than 50 Mini Motifs by Susan Bates
This book contains over 50 cross stitch motifs, all on the theme of flowers. Inside there are pretty little floral garlands, bold poppies, sprigs of lavender, pansies, violas and flowering herbs. There are softly coloured roses and also bolder designs which have a contemporary feel to them, such as the colourful flowering cacti motifs in brightly coloured, decorated pots.
Susan's love of the natural world is very apparent here, as she includes details such as bees, butterflies and little birds in her designs. She also has a love of pattern and includes decorated bone china teapots, teacups and vintage style plates, all decorated with flowers. The motifs can be used to make little greetings cards and gift tags. They could also be used to decorate clothing.
The larger motifs would make pretty little framed pictures and cushions. You could also use the motifs to decorate tablecloths, towels and bed linen. You can stitch the motifs individually, or mix and match them to make up your own sampler style design. The motifs are small and easy to stitch as they are made up of full cross stitches only and some backstitch outlining, for the detail. They can be stitched by beginners and more confident stitchers alike. Susan's style is contemporary but she has with an eye for detail and rich shading.
She likes to combine traditional and vintage style motifs with more a modern style, up-to-date style, so there should be plenty of motifs in this book to appeal to all different types of stitchers!
